Lady Vikes Stumble Against Undefeated CBC Hawks

After snapping a four-game losing streak with a dramatic five-set victory over Spokane Falls, the Lady Vikes faced a daunting task in their next match, traveling to Pasco, WA, to take on the undefeated Columbia Basin College Hawks. Despite showing resilience, the Lady Vikes ultimately fell short, losing in straight sets.

In the opening set, the Lady Vikes found themselves in an early hole but fought back with a strong push. However, their late rally was undone by a series of unforced errors, allowing the Hawks to close out the set 25-19. The second and third sets followed a similar pattern. The Lady Vikes managed to stay within striking distance throughout, but costly mistakes in crucial moments led to 25-20 and 25-19 losses, sealing the match for CBC.

With a number of key players sidelined due to injuries, the Lady Vikes have relied on the entire roster to step up. Hailey Buehner delivered a standout performance, collecting six kills with an impressive .400 hitting efficiency. Addison Herbek also contributed significantly, dishing out 10 assists while adding seven digs in a valiant effort. Head Coach Alexa Moser had this to say regarding the loss.

"It was nice to see the girls out there competing against a great team like CBC, but there's no reason we couldn't have at least taken a set from them. But when you get to the end of a set and make 5-6 errors, you can't expect to win. We really just got in our own way, lots of unforced errors and when you're not playing clean volleyball, we're going to keep finding ourselves on the losing end of these competitive matches."

Moser also highlighted.

"It's frustrating to see CBC a second time around and see the same outcome of losing in three straight sets. On a positive note, overall it was more competitive than the first time around but when we got to the end of each set we just couldn't execute and finish. Against a good team like CBC, you can't just be making error after error, especially at the end of a set."

Knowing what they were up against Moser walked us through how they prepared for the high powered Hawks offense.

"The focus in practice this week has been a lot of defense, both at the net with blocking and in the backrow with digging. We've been trying to figure out a different look on defense and our backrow made an adjustment and were all over the place, getting a lot of balls up but our front row just couldn't keep up with the tempo of CBC's offense. Once again, you can only rely on your backrow so much to continue to dig and dig and dig, at some point we need our offense to find a way to put a ball away."
