Lady Vikings Rally Late to Stay Atop Eastern Region Race
Entering the home stretch of the regular season, the Lady Vikings are focused on finishing strong and securing the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Region. On Wednesday, February 18, Big Bend Community College hit the road to take on Spokane Falls Community College and the Sasquatch.
BBCC found themselves in unfamiliar territory early, trailing by three points after the opening frame. The Lady Vikings regrouped in the second quarter, settling into their offense and tightening up defensively to take a slim one-point lead into halftime.
The third quarter proved to be a challenge, as a sluggish start allowed the Sasquatch to regain momentum. BBCC entered the fourth and final frame trailing by two, setting the stage for a gritty finish.
When it mattered most, the Lady Vikings kicked it into high gear. Clamping down defensively and finding timely buckets, BBCC managed to sneak out a hard-fought 58–54 victory over the 1–10 Sasquatch.
Kaliyah Evans led the way offensively with 18 points on 6-of-19 shooting, while Oaklie Jackman recorded yet another impressive double-double, finishing with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Their efforts proved crucial in a game where points were at a premium.
The Lady Vikings struggled from the floor overall, shooting below 30 percent and connecting on just 20 percent of their attempts from beyond the arc. Despite the offensive woes, BBCC's resilience and late-game execution secured the win.
With the postseason picture tightening, the Lady Vikings will look to regroup as they prepare to face the Warriors of Walla Walla Community College this Saturday, aiming to maintain their hold on the top spot in the Eastern Region standings.
