Big Bend Women’s Wrestling Shines at Spokane Open with Seven Placers

The Big Bend Community College women's wrestling team continued their strong start to the season with an impressive showing at the Spokane Open this past weekend. Competing in their second match of the season, the Lady Vikings showcased their depth and skill, with seven wrestlers earning podium finishes.

Leading the charge were Abby Varady and Aynslee Heister, who each captured first place in their respective weight classes at 138 lbs and 145 lbs. Varady's dominant performance solidified her as one of the top competitors in her division, while Heister's victory demonstrated her consistency and grit.

Other notable performances included Natalie Johnson and Ihanna Perez, who each secured fourth-place finishes at 103 lbs and 180 lbs, respectively. Rounding out the success for BBCC were three sixth-place finishes: Michelle Acevedo at 131 lbs, Elizabeth Kovacs at 160 lbs, and Elia Velazquez at 180 lbs.

Head Coach Desiree Zavala praised the team's effort and growth:
"We improved from our last competition. This early in the season, that is all I am looking for! Super proud of the way we wrestled today."

The Lady Vikings' continued progress signals a promising season ahead as they build momentum with each competition. BBCC looks forward to their next match as they aim to keep the success rolling with a dual at Washington State University on December 6th. As always, keep up with the Vikings on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram, as well as through the NWACSports Network's livestream video platform, where available.
