Lady Vikes Defeat Blue Mountain in Four Sets to Kick Off Crucial Stretch
After a tough loss to Columbia Basin College, the Big Bend Lady Vikes embarked on a critical stretch of must-win matches, starting with a home game against Blue Mountain Community College. Hosting the Timberwolves at the DeVries Activity Center on Friday, October 25th, BBCC was determined to start the final five games of conference play on a high note.
The Lady Vikes came out strong, taking the first set 25-21 and following up with a solid 25-20 win in the second. Looking to complete the three-set sweep, BBCC fought through a tight third set but ultimately dropped it 26-24. Regrouping quickly, the Lady Vikes dominated the fourth set, closing out the match with a 25-16 victory.
With this win, the Lady Vikes move to 4-6 in conference play, keeping their postseason hopes alive with four matches to go. Hailey Buehner led the offense with 10 kills and 2 aces, while Natalie Evers contributed a balanced performance with 8 kills and an impressive 8 block assists. Head Coach Alexa Moser had this to say regarding the win.
"There was a lot of back and forth in this match, lots of momentum shifts and competitive volleyball that we found ourselves on both sides. It was tough to find consistency throughout the night but the girls found a way to work through it and come out on top."
Moser also added.
"It's nice to get another win at home, especially on an off night. Things just weren't clicking for us, setter hitter connections weren't there, we still had a lot of good moments but we just never really found a rhythm. This win was all heart and fight and after losing in 3 straight Wednesday, I was proud of these girls for getting it done."
BBCC hits the road to face off versus Yakima Valley Community College this upcoming Wednesday. As always, keep up with the Vikings on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, as well as through the NWACSports Network's livestream video platform, where available.
