Lady Vikes Sweep Blue Mountain CC to Get Back Above .500

Fresh off leveling their record, the Big Bend Lady Vikes hit the road once again, traveling to Pendleton, OR, to face Blue Mountain Community College. The Lady Vikes came out firing on all cylinders, taking control early and sweeping the Timberwolves in three straight sets. BBCC dominated the first two sets with scores of 25-11 and 25-13, and showed resilience in a tightly contested third set, winning 31-29 to complete the sweep.

Natalie Evers led the charge for the Viking offense with 10 kills and an efficient .409 hitting percentage. Audrey Wellhausen was pivotal in the victory, contributing across the board with 6 kills, 5 digs, 4 block assists, and a solo block, helping secure the Lady Vikes' win.

With this victory, BBCC moves back above .500 and continues to build momentum as they navigate conference play. The Lady Vikes look to carry their strong form into their upcoming matchups. Head Coach Alexa Moser had this to say regarding the victory.

"This game was frustrating just from the standpoint of knowing we could've played better than what we did. But being able to switch lineups, run a different offense, and just keep mixing things up, showed me what these girls are truly capable of. In set 3, we ran out of subs and had to put girls in positions they are not normally in and although it might have been a little chaotic at times, they still found a way."

Although not the cleanest win, Moser also highlighted the ramifications of the win by stating.

"Last night was a good team win. If you look at stats, it wasn't our best night by any means, but it was very spread out. We switched up lineups, got a lot of girls in just to see different looks and the girls did a great job controlling our side and just competing. It's nice to have a struggle win like this because as a coach it tells me what we need to work on, but at the end of the day even when we aren't playing our best, we're finding ways to win. To start off 2-1 in league with 2 of those wins being on the road is huge. Excited to be home next week and compete in some tough matchups."

With a match just two days prior, BBCC had a short time to prepare for yet another pivotal match, Moser explained.

"With a short turnaround from the Spokane game on Wednesday, practice was focused on us on Thursday. Controlling our side of the net and what we can do. Better first touches and then just being more efficient offensively. Finding ways to score instead of just swinging to swing. And the girls did exactly that, our offense was spread out, we ran a quick tempo offense and our ball control was great keeping us in system throughout the match."

BBCC finally has the opportunity to play at home after a month on the road as they host CBC on Wednesday October 2nd at the Devries Activity Center. As always, keep up with the Vikings on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram, as well as through the NWACSports Network's livestream video platform, where available.
