Lady Vikings Suffer Tough Road Sweep After Late-Inning Collapse

After a challenging stretch against Oregon teams, the Lady Vikings took to the road for back-to-back doubleheaders, beginning Friday at Columbia Basin College. What started as a promising outing quickly turned into a difficult weekend for Big Bend.

In game one against the Hawks, the Lady Vikings appeared to be in complete control early on. Holding a 6-2 lead heading into the seventh inning, BBCC looked poised to secure a much-needed win. However, the momentum shifted dramatically in the final frame as Columbia Basin erupted for five runs in the bottom of the seventh, walking off the Lady Vikings in heartbreaking fashion.

Despite the loss, Dakota Brown delivered an outstanding performance at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with a home run and a double. Mady Morris also contributed offensively with two hits, including a home run of her own.

The emotional loss carried into game two, where the Lady Vikings struggled to find any rhythm. The offense managed just two hits in an 8-0 defeat, as Columbia Basin completed the sweep.

The following day, the Lady Vikings traveled to Walla Walla to face the Warriors. Game one remained a tight contest early, with BBCC trailing just 1-0 heading into the fourth inning. However, Walla Walla broke things open late, scoring five runs in the fourth and adding three more in the fifth to pull away for a 9-1 victory.

Big Bend tallied four hits in the game, highlighted by a home run from Jaeda Gonzalez.

Game two followed a similar script, as the Lady Vikings fell behind early and were unable to recover. Walla Walla put up runs in every inning, including four in the first, three in the second, five in the third, and three in the fourth, leading to a 15-0 mercy-rule win in five innings. The Lady Vikings recorded three hits in the loss.

After a tough weekend on the road, the Lady Vikings will look to regroup and reset as they prepare for the upcoming NWAC crossover tournament, hoping to turn the page and find their rhythm moving forward.
