Vikings Finish Strong, Close 2026 Season with Three Straight Wins

An up-and-down season came to a close for the Big Bend Community College men's basketball team this past Wednesday night, but not before the Vikings reminded everyone what they are capable of at their best.

A year marked by adversity, growth, and resilience ended on a high note as BBCC rattled off three consecutive victories to finish the 2026 campaign. The final win came on Sophomore Day, when the Vikings delivered an impressive 88–73 victory over Yakima Valley College.

BBCC came out flying in the first half, setting the tone early with crisp ball movement and efficient shooting. The Vikings built momentum throughout the opening 20 minutes and carried an eight-point lead into the locker room at halftime. Rather than easing up, Big Bend kept its foot firmly on the gas in the second half, executing on both ends of the floor and steadily extending the advantage.

When the final buzzer sounded, the Vikings had sprinted through the finish line of the 2026 season with a commanding 15-point victory.

Sophomore guard Sugar Eaton turned in one of his finest performances of the year, pouring in 27 points on an efficient 12-of-15 shooting from the field. His ability to attack the rim and convert in transition gave Yakima Valley fits all night long. Fellow sophomore Lorenzo Contreras followed closely behind, adding 17 points of his own in a balanced offensive effort that showcased the team's chemistry and unselfishness.

Despite the strong finish, BBCC narrowly missed out on postseason play, falling just one game short with a final conference record of 6–8. While the playoffs slipped away, the Vikings' late-season surge demonstrated the potential that defined much of their year.

The program now says goodbye to its sophomore class, a group that battled through challenges and helped steady the team down the stretch. Their leadership and perseverance were instrumental in closing the season with pride and momentum.

Congratulations to all the sophomores on a tremendous career as Vikings, and best of luck in your future endeavors.
