Late Push Comes Up Short as Big Bend Drops Three-Point Decision to Wenatchee Valley
Coming off a tough loss to Blue Mountain Community College, the Big Bend Vikings hoped to get back on track as they hosted Wenatchee Valley College on their home floor.
The first half was a back-and-forth battle, with both teams trading baskets and momentum throughout the opening 20 minutes. Wenatchee Valley managed to edge ahead late, taking a slim 33–32 lead into the break.
Hoping to close the small gap in the second half, the Vikings came out firing with renewed energy and intensity. Big Bend battled until the final buzzer, but ultimately dropped their second matchup against the Knights by a final score of 63–60.
Sugar Eaton led the way for the Vikings, pouring in 26 points on an impressive 9-of-13 shooting performance. Eaton carried the offensive load and kept Big Bend within striking distance all night.
However, the free-throw line once again proved to be the Vikings' Achilles' heel. Big Bend finished just 11-for-16 from the charity stripe, leaving crucial points on the board that ultimately made the difference in a tightly contested game.
With the loss, the Vikings now sit at 2–6 in conference play. Big Bend will need to turn things around quickly if they hope to keep their postseason aspirations alive.
The Vikings will look to bounce back as they prepare to host Walla Walla Community College this Saturday, with tip-off set for 2:00 p.m.
