Vikings Grind Out Road Win to Open Conference Play

Big Bend Community College opened conference play on the road Wednesday, January 7th, traveling to Wenatchee Valley College for a matchup with the Knights that turned into a hard-nosed defensive battle.

Both teams struggled to find consistent offense as each side was held under 40 percent shooting from the field. BBCC set the tone early on the defensive end and carried an eight-point advantage into halftime, leading 30–22 at the break.

The Knights made a strong push in the second half, chipping away at the deficit and turning the game into a tight contest down the stretch. Despite the late surge, the Vikings stayed composed and executed when it mattered most, sneaking out a 58–55 road victory to open conference play.

Lorenzo Contreras paced BBCC offensively, leading all Vikings with 14 points while shooting an efficient 5-for-7 from the field. The Vikings also controlled key stretches on the glass, with Miguel, Taylor, and Dominik Wojna making their presence felt by pulling down multiple rebounds and helping limit second-chance opportunities for the Knights.

With the win, BBCC starts conference action at 1–0. The Vikings will return home this Saturday to host Treasure Valley Community College at the DeVries Activity Center, with tipoff scheduled for noon.
