BBCC Men’s Basketball Battles Through North Idaho Invitational

The Big Bend Community College men's basketball team returned to action this past weekend, taking part in a two-game slate at the North Idaho Invitational. Coming off a strong 2-1 showing at the Skagit Valley Tournament, the Vikings looked to continue building momentum as conference play approaches. However, the weekend presented challenges, and BBCC ultimately came up short in both contests

Friday's matchup against Williston State proved to be an uphill battle from the opening tip. The Vikings struggled to find a rhythm early and faced a steep 19-point halftime deficit. After regrouping at the break, BBCC sparked a second-half surge, outscoring Williston State by 11.

Despite the late push, the first-half hole proved too deep, and the Vikings fell 82-74.

Sugar Eaton was the offensive standout, delivering an impressive performance with 22 points on efficient 9-of-13 shooting. While BBCC clawed back late, turnovers and missed opportunities at the free-throw line made all the difference. The Vikings committed 19 turnovers and went just 10-of-23 from the stripe—numbers that ultimately swung the outcome.

Looking to respond on Saturday, Big Bend showed resilience early against Miles City. The Vikings controlled the pace, executed well offensively, and carried a 5-point lead into the half. However, the second half took a sharp turn. Miles City surged with a dominant 19-point advantage over the final 20 minutes, leaving BBCC on the wrong end of an 89-75 final.

Eaton once again led the charge with 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting, capping off a strong individual weekend. Dominik Wojna added 14 points, while Lorenzo Contreras, Jakari Singleton, and Kayden Meadows each contributed 10 in a balanced offensive effort.

Still, turnovers again plagued the Vikings as they gave the ball away 15 times—allowing Miles City to capitalize and swing momentum for good.

With the two losses, BBCC finds itself on a three-game slide despite competitive stretches in each contest. Head coach and staff now turn the focus toward regrouping, tightening execution, and eliminating costly mistakes.

The Vikings return home for the Big Bend Crossover this upcoming Friday, December 12, where they will take on Southwestern Oregon at the DeVries Activity Center. With the first stretch of non-conference play nearing its close, Big Bend seeks to reset the course heading toward conference action.
