Big Bend Community College tipped off its 2025 campaign in the desert this past weekend, traveling south to Arizona for a three-game round robin. The Vikings played one game each day—Thursday, Friday, and Saturday—and wasted no time showcasing their resilience in a weekend filled with late-game dramatics.
BBCC opened the tournament against Cochise College in what proved to be a thriller from start to finish. Trailing by six at halftime, the Vikings clawed their way back and managed to tie the game as time expired, sending the contest into overtime. In the extra period, Big Bend edged out Cochise, earning a gritty 73–70 victory.
Mahmoud Ibrahim provided a huge spark off the bench, pouring in 20 points in 28 minutes on an efficient 7-for-11 shooting performance, including five made threes on eight attempts. Miguel Taylor added 13 points and five rebounds to help secure the comeback win.
On Friday, the Vikings found themselves in another battle—this time against Scottsdale Community College. BBCC trailed 41–27 at the break, but once again stormed back in the second half, forcing overtime for the second straight night. The Vikings rode their momentum through the extra period, picking up a 78–72 victory to improve to 2–0.
Sugar Eaton led the way with 22 points on 7-of-17 shooting, while Lorenzo Contreras and Yuval Weizman both reached double figures to balance the offensive attack. Dominik Wojna anchored the paint with a dominant effort, grabbing 14 rebounds and swatting three shots.
On Saturday, Big Bend looked to complete the weekend sweep in a rematch with Scottsdale Community College, but the third game proved to be the toughest test of the tournament. The Vikings fell behind early and were unable to recover, ultimately dropping the contest 109–73.
BBCC now turns its attention to another busy stretch. The Vikings will travel to Green River Community College on Friday to compete in the Green River Tournament as they continue their non-conference slate.
