Vikings Explode for 19 Hits, Rally Late to Sweep Yakima Valley
After a rough series against Spokane Falls Community College, the Vikings bounced back in a big way as they hit the road to face Eastern Region rival Yakima Valley College—and left with a statement sweep.
The Vikings wasted no time setting the tone in Game 1, jumping out early and never looking back. They plated two runs in the first inning, followed by three in the second, two in the third, one in the fifth, two in the seventh, and another in the eighth. The offensive surge added up to 19 hits in an emphatic 11–3 victory.
Chase Fleming got the start on the mound, delivering 5 1/3 innings of solid work while allowing three runs and striking out four. Cole McKinnon took over from there and was lights out, tossing the final 3 2/3 innings without allowing a run while striking out four.
At the plate, the Vikings' offense was relentless. Ricardo Leon Guerrero led the charge with four hits and an RBI. Jaime Ruelas, Kaiden Weakly, Isaiah Aliksa, and Ryley Doig each contributed three hits in the dominant performance. Aliksa and Owen Mayencourt delivered the biggest blows, with Aliksa driving in three runs and Mayencourt adding four RBIs in a 2-for-5 day.
Riding the momentum into Game 2, the Vikings again struck early, putting up two runs in the first inning. Yakima Valley responded, and the game remained tied at two heading into the later innings. The Yaks pushed ahead with one run in the seventh and two more in the eighth, taking a 5–2 lead into the final frame.
But the Vikings weren't done.
In the ninth inning, they mounted a dramatic rally, manufacturing four runs to take a 6–5 lead. Ricardo Leon Guerrero then stepped onto the mound to close it out—and did just that in dominant fashion, striking out the side to secure the sweep.
Kevin Garcia paced the offense in Game 2, going 3-for-5, while Guerrero stayed hot at the plate with two more hits. Karter Wilson started on the mound, throwing five innings of two-run baseball. Dayton Shimatsu and Alex Hirai bridged the middle innings before Guerrero slammed the door.
With the sweep complete, the Vikings now turn their attention to a home matchup this Saturday as they look to finish off the series on their own field.
