Vikings Drop Series at Spokane Falls After Strong Start Slips Away

After earning a split at home, the Vikings hit the road with hopes of securing a series win against Spokane Falls Community College. Despite a promising start in game one, Big Bend ultimately came up short in both contests.

Freshman right-hander Josh Stirm got the ball in the opener and delivered a solid outing. Stirm worked five innings, allowing three runs while striking out two and keeping the Vikings competitive throughout his time on the mound.

The Vikings offense provided early support, plating one run in the second inning and another in the third to grab momentum. The game remained tight, with the score knotted at 2-2 heading into the sixth inning. However, things unraveled for the Vikings in the bottom half of the frame, as Spokane Falls pushed across three runs to take control. They added two more in the eighth inning to extend their lead and secure a 7-4 victory.

Offensively, Isaiah Aliksa led the way with two hits, while Owen Mayencourt provided a bright spot with a two-run home run—his second of the season.

Game two proved to be more of a struggle for Big Bend. Spokane Falls struck early and often, scoring three runs in the second inning and adding four more in the third to build a commanding 7-1 lead. The Vikings were unable to generate any sustained offense, finishing the game with just three hits in an 8-1 loss.

With the series slipping away, the Vikings now turn their attention to their next matchup. They will travel to Yakima Valley College this Wednesday looking to bounce back and regain momentum in conference play.
