Vikings Struggle in Wenatchee, Dropped in Two-Game Set
Coming off a split at home, the Big Bend Vikings hit the road this past weekend to face Wenatchee Valley College, but the trip proved to be a difficult one as they were swept in a two-game set.
Game one featured a strong outing from Josh Stirm, who took the mound and delivered a solid performance despite little help behind him. Defensive miscues plagued the Vikings, as they committed five errors in the field, putting Stirm in tough situations throughout his outing. Offensively, Big Bend couldn't find any rhythm, managing just one hit in the game. Stirm battled through five innings, allowing three runs—only one of them earned—but the Vikings ultimately fell in a 10-0 loss.
Looking to bounce back in game two, the Vikings turned to Juan Ayala on the mound, but things quickly unraveled. Ayala was unable to escape the first inning as Wenatchee Valley jumped out to an early and commanding lead. Big Bend found themselves in a deep hole from the start and were unable to recover, eventually falling 15-2.
With the pair of losses, the Vikings drop to 1-3 in conference play. They'll look to regroup quickly as they prepare to face Spokane Falls Community College this Wednesday, aiming to get back on track and turn things around early in the season.
