It was a tough weekend for the Lady Vikings volleyball team as they traveled to compete in the Spokane Invitational at the Community Colleges of Spokane on Friday and Saturday. Big Bend finished the weekend with a 1-4 record with losses to Chemeketa, Bellvue, Clark, and Grays Harbor, however, they did manage to pull out a victory over Northwest Athletic Conference East Regional rival Wenatchee Valley.
It was the Lady Vikings third win on the young season, already eclipsing the 2017 season total - two wins coming against East Region opponents.
"The East is going to be tough as usual," said Big Bend Head Volleyball Coach Micheal De Hoog. "I think Spokane, NIC, and Walla Walla are going to be fighting for the top spots, but anyone can beat anyone on any given night. Treasure Valley has improved from last year and Yakima Valley, and Blue Mountain will be tough as well. If we put ourselves in a position to be successful and control the controllable factors on our end, I believe we have the ability to compete with everyone."
On Wednesday (Sept. 12), Big Bend will return the favor to the Bigfoot by playing host to the Community Colleges of Spokane. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. inside the Peter C. DeVries Center on the Big Bend campus.
