The Lady Vikes are now 7-2 during their preseason after picking up three wins over the weekend at the Lower Columbia Crossover Tournament. Big Bend was locked in a barn burner Saturday night with Lower Columbia but held on late for an exciting win.
Big Bend 77, Peninsula 53
Kelsey Sorenson got off to a hot start Friday night leading Big Bend to a lopsided win over Peninsula. The Freshman from Price, UT recorded a double-double scoring 17 points and pulling down 13 boards for the Lady Vikes. Sorenson was 7-of-9 shooting from the field (1-of-1 from 3-point) and a perfect 2-of-2 from the free throw line.
Hannah Wilson (FR; Rexburg, ID) finished with 16 points (5 rebounds), and Miranda Johnson (SO; Salt Lake City; UT) 11 points and 8 rebounds. Kayla Luke (FR; Sugar City, ID), Leah Dougherty (SO; Rexburg, ID) and Abby Broadbent (FR; Plain City, UT) each added 8 points in the winning effort.
Big Bend 76, Lower Columbia 75
With 0:10 left on the clock and the game tied at 75-75, Miranda Johnson's 3-point attempt was off the mark (Johnson had just sunk two, 3-pointers on the previous two possessions). However, Leah Dougherty pulled down the rebound and was fouled sending her to the line with 0:05 left to play. After missing the front end, she was able to connect on her second attempt giving Big bend a 1-point lead. A last-second attempt from Lower Columbia went wide and the Lady Vikes picked up the "W".
BBCC was in control for the majority of the contest but were outscored by Lower Columbia 25-16 in the final quarter.
Johnson finished with 20 points to lead Big Bend with Kelsy Sorenson adding 15. Freshman Anna Yarbro (Moses Lake, WA) had an impressive showing off the bench for the Lady Vikes scoring 9 points and pulling down 12 rebounds.
