Big Bend Community College freshman Abby Broadbent had an excellent night off the bench for the Lady Vikings scoring 21 second-half points on 8-of-13 shooting (4-of-8 from 3-point) and helping drive a third-quarter push that gave BBCC the Northwest Athletic Conference East Region win over Yakima Valley.
With the Lady Vikes leading by a single point, Broadbent (Plain City, UT) entered the game after a BBCC timeout at the 4:53 mark of the 3rd quarter. She proceeded to score 9 points to help push the Big Bend lead to 57-51 by the end of the third quarter that saw the Lady Vikes outscore Yakima 21-12 and become the turning point in the win. Broadbent also finished with 8 rebounds.
The Lady Vikings (15-2, 4-0) also got 21 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals from Miranda Johnson (SO; Salt Lake City, UT) and 17 points and 8 rebounds from Hannah Wilson (FR, Rexburg, ID).
Big Bend freshman Kelsey Sorenson (Price, UT) also turned in a great effort tallying a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
As a team, Big Bend controlled the glass against Yakima (9-7, 0-4) nearly doubling-up their rebound total, 50-26, and led to 20 second-chance points for BBCC. However, the Lady Vikes did have trouble holding on to the ball as they committed 22 turnovers.
The Lady Vikings do have a bit of a rest before traveling on Saturday to Ontario, OR to face Treasure Valley (10-7, 2-1) at 2 PM PST.
